The Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA) has launched a special online appointment system (OAS) for processing passports of active seafarers and other Filipino workers abroad (OFW).
DFA said in a notice that eligible seafarer applicants must present a valid seaman’s book with an arrival stamp no more than 364 days from the date of application.
During this time, land-based OFWs must present a valid work visa or re-entry visa. The OAS was launched on September 8 at DFA’s Robinsons Galleria consular office in Ortigas.
Applicants must also submit one of the following: – Valid electronic card from the Overseas Workers Welfare Administration (OWWA); – The latest receipt of the Overseas Work Certificate (OEC); and- The latest OFW fact sheet from the Philippine Overseas Employment Administration (POEA) Marino Partylist, who welcomed the decision, clarified that seafarers do not need to have a deployment scheduled to qualify for the OAS.
Seafarers simply need to show proof of their last CAB. Active OFWs can make an appointment via www.passport.gov.ph by selecting the DFA NCR Central site (Robinsons Galleria-Active OFW Lane).
Passport applicants who do not qualify as active OFWs, on the other hand, are encouraged to make appointments at other sites to avoid inconvenience. “Unqualified or incomplete applications will not be accepted and all fees paid will be forfeited,” said the DFA.
