Egyptian Presidential Pardon Committee launches online form to request release of prisoner

CAIRO – May 04, 2022: The Presidential Pardon Committee has launched an online form to request the release of any prisoner by presidential pardon.

The form asks for the prisoner’s full name, ID card, case number and governorate.

The person filling out the forms should also write down their full name, ID, and phone number and email address for communication.

The committee also announced several other ways to demand the release of a prisoner, including:

1- Sending requests by mail to the Human Rights Committee of the House of Representatives.

2 – Send requests by mail to the Senate Human Rights Commission.

3- Sending requests to the Complaints Commission of the National Human Rights Council.

4- Send the requests to the members of the Presidential Pardon Committee.

In April, Egyptian President Abdel-Fattah El-Sissi reactivated the “presidential pardon committee” that was formed after the national youth conference, as it will expand its cooperation with relevant agencies and civil society. .

During her speech at the family’s Egyptian Iftar, Sisi expressed her joy at the release of new batches of Egyptians over the past few days, and stressed that the country welcomes everyone.

Sisi also instructed the leadership of the National Youth Conference, in coordination with all political parties and youth currents, to conduct a political dialogue on the priorities of national actions during the current phase.

A day later, Egyptian authorities announced the release of 3,273 detainees via presidential pardon on Sinai Liberation Day.

Social Solidarity Minister Nevin al-Qabaj also said on Wednesday that a list of 700 debtors has been prepared to be released from prison by presidential pardon.

The minister noted that the selection was limited to those who got loans to pay for essentials, and not just for unnecessary reasons. She added that 250 of them will even regain their freedom before Eid Al Fitr.
