Retired military doctors to offer online consultation to civilian patients


New Delhi: The government has hired retired military doctors to provide online consultations to civilian patients across the country as part of a Union Ministry of Health telemedicine platform.

The initiative was taken by the Defense Ministry as part of comprehensive measures to help civil authorities deal with the increase in COVID-19 cases.

“Former defense medics will now offer an online consultation on the e-Sanjeevani OPD to all citizens of the country. Veterans have stepped forward to answer the nation’s call and have offered their services to help the people in need of medical care, ”the Defense Ministry said. in a report.

He said the service can be used by any civilian on the website https://esanjeevaniopd.in/. OPD e-Sanjeevani is a flagship government telemedicine platform developed by the Center for Development of Advanced Computing (C-DAC).

“It offers free consultations to Indian citizens and works extremely well,” the defense ministry said.

He said that due to the increase in COVID-19 cases, the demand for doctors has increased while their availability has decreased due to the deployment at COVID facilities.

“This is where defense veterans come in to help,” he added.

The ministry said the response from retired defense medics has been good and more retired professionals are expected to join them soon.

“Subsequently, a separate OPD from former defense physicians nationwide is being considered. Their vast experience and expertise will help the wider clientele obtain home consultations and overcome the current situation,” he said. -he declares.
