CITY OF TACLOBAN – The local government unit of Naval in Biliran province on Monday launched its online consultation program providing free services to residents in the comfort of their homes to prevent the spread of the 2019 coronavirus disease (Covid-19) .

Launched on Higatangan Island where there are two villages, the e-Konsulta program is run by the town’s rural health unit.

“I think it will be a game-changer by providing basic health services to people not only in our city but throughout Biliran province,” Mayor Gerard Espina said at the launch.

He added that with the program, residents of the island do not have to travel an hour by boat to see a doctor.

Residents benefiting from the online consultation will receive free medication at the island pharmacy opened earlier by the local government.

At least 10 island residents received health services at the launch.

The local government implemented the program as a way to decongest hospitals and health centers and limit face-to-face interactions between patients and doctors, especially in this pandemic.

Espina added that after the launch in island villages, residents of other communities can benefit from the online consultation on a schedule.

Naval, a 2nd class town with a population of 58,187 in 26 villages, is the capital of Biliran, one of the smallest provinces in the country. (ANP)
